12" Kiintsugi Plate. This plate has been embellished with the age old beautiful Kintsugi technique. This is a Japanese art form (philosophy) where the artist puts the broken pottery pieces together with gold. The philosophy behind this is to embrace the imperfections and flaws to create a stronger and more beautiful work of art.
This piece had been fired with crystalline glaze and had developed a slight crack during the firing process. But the piece itself was just so beautiful that the thought of throwing it away was really disheartening. I read and researched about the Kintsugi technique and thought of experimenting with this piece. It definitely took a lot of time and patience to get the hang of it but eventually it came out to be stronger and more beautiful.
